A few years ago I wrote a post about a new electricity usage monitor that would measure amp draw and tell you exactly what appliance was on. This allowed for in depth energy usage monitoring beyond what is possible with older technology. Now, there is a similar product for water monitoring and it comes with the added benefit of shutting off the water if it detects a major leak.
I first saw the new device on This Old House (still one of my favorite shows). Here’s the clip from their “Future House” segment:
With a device like that installed, you can start seeing usage patterns and look for ways to reduce water usage and ultimately save money. While a little harder to retrofit than the electricity monitor, this device is relatively easy to install and can provide some very valuable data and possible save your home from a disastrous leak.
At Forward Engineers, we seek to not only be a design and consulting firm but to also educate our clients about engineering technology. While doing so, we inevitably refresh our own knowledge and sometimes even learn something ourselves. If you are seeking to work with an engineering firm that is client-centered and strives to provides services that are on time, on budget and exceed expectations, please contact us.
